Linear displacement transducers are electromechanical devices, which helps in indicating a point in reference to a fixed point with the help of relative electrical output. The point which is fixed is positioned in a line for, in an axis way from the device. Linear displacement transducers can measure an expedition from 0 to 6.5cm. Linear displacement transducers consist a polystyrene tube of 6 inches long with an outside diameter of 3/8 inches and an inside diameter of 1/4. The sensing rod in the linear displacement transducer is moved through its expedition i.e., 0 to 6.5 cm, the armature passes out of one coil lowering the impedance of the first coil and increasing the relative impedance of the second coil.

The impedance of the two coils does not relatively change linearly with the position. All simple variable coils of general types are introduced which are non-linear in nature, and cannot be cancelled in a voltage divider. The coils must be made linear or a linearity which is controlled is introduced. The use of voltage of high- frequency is made essential by the lower values of induction involved. The output is always in A.C. current which is then transformed into D.C. current by a simple R.C. filter.
